My Grown Up Princess Bed

What self respecting girl doesn't want her own princess bed? Funny thing is, I am not into the super-girly frou-frou stuff. And I do share my bedroom with a boy. Here is my version of a romantic princess bed:

Bed reflected in the mirror.
I already had the doors. These were rescued from a house fire back in '09. All I did was to scrub the greasy smoke residue from them. The fire damage gives these doors an amazing patina.

Here is what I did:

I began with a piece of driftwood that I collected from the beach near Santa Cruz. Beer Can Beach, to be exact. I cut the wood to a more manageable length and also to create a flat end to attach flush to the wall.

I screwed an L bracket to the wood.

Since I didn't have a stud where I planned to attach the wood I used a molly bolt.

Nail the bolt into the wall.

Then tighten the screw. This pulls the supports up against the inside of the drywall. Then remove the screw and attach the wood.

Here is the attached wood. Feel free to leave your phallus references in the comments section. I know what this looks like ;-)

These filmy panels are curtains from Ikea. They were only about five bucks. Score!

I strung twine through the tops of these curtain panels to attach them together and I laid them over the wood.

I draped the panels along the sides of the doors and along the sides of the bed.

Très romantique, oui ?

The panels really soften the look of the doors, don'tcha think?

Can't wait to go to bed tonight!
I also made those pale green pillowcases from an old sheet. There are more to come :-)

Pretty! And I'm not girly-frou-frou... and share my bed with a boy, too (sometimes two when our son has a bad dream and comes to snuggle in the middle of the night).

Hey Christine,

I know you already saw your FEATURE on my blog, but just wanted to come and tell you on yours how much I loved your bed. It is seriously beautiful, but surprisingly not too girly, which is awesome. That headboard you made, is just AMAZING.

Thanks so much for linking up to my party :)
